Spring 2010 / Starlee’s issue of THE THING, entitled "Crying Instructions," is a bamboo cutting board designed only for onion cutting, with text that has been seared into its surface. It also includes a locker poster of a crying McNulty from "The Wire" TV series (illustrated by Arthur Jones), and a set of Crying Instructions written by Starlee.

Starlee Kine is an American public radio producer and writer. Her work has been featured on This American Life and Marketplace. Her writing has appeared in the New York Times Magazine. She is currently working on a book about self-help titled, “It IS Your Fault”. She also co-created the Post-It Note Reading Series with the very talented Arthur Jones.

THE THING Quarterly is a periodical in the form of an object. Each year, four artists, writers, musicians or filmmakers are invited by the editors (Jonn Herschend and Will Rogan) to create a useful object that somehow incorporates text.
